Thanks for sharing, I was unaware of the involvement of Polish and Dutch troops. I commend the Poles that sided with the Haitians, that was quite the surprise.

What a sad history, the French should be shamed until they pay reparations. The article you linked to yesterday was worth the read, however. the comment section never fails to disappoint, ignorance breeds racism.

Thanks for reading! The Polish community still exist to this day and are mostly living in Cazale, not far from Port-au-Prince. I don't have the exact numbers but some sources say they are a few thousand on the island.

The very first step would be for France to pay back the debt. It's estimated that if it had been invested into their economy instead, it would have been worth 115 billion $ instead, which for 11 million inhabitants today means 10,000$ invested on each Haitian, which is huge considering the daily wage is 6$.

You’re welcome, just saw you posted the second part . I’ll give it a read this evening.

I agree, if Haiti made sound investments it could account for $10,000. I would be more conservative, accounting for inefficiencies, probably it would be half circa 40-60 %. Such as US influence would plunder some of its wealth twisting Haiti’s arm to adopt the Washington consensus and become member of the WTO, binding its sovereignty to lopsided trade agreements.

Regardless, Haiti would significantly improve its standard of living.
